CPAP nasal masks

CPAP nasal masks are usually triangular in shape and cover only the nose. It can come with or without a headgear.

With the CPAP nasal mask, the sensation you get from the air pressure is very different from the full face mask. The air is pumped directly through your nostrils, thus, the air pressure will seem s little bit stronger. Unlike the full face mask, the air disperses a little before it enters your air passage. This gives the feeling of a little less pressure.

Using a CPAP nasal mask puts air pressure through your nose, thus the leak will most likely escape through the mouth. In order to avoid such instances, a chin strap is usually recommended.

A CPAP nasal gear would be a great option for people who feel ‘claustrophobic’ when using a full face mask. The nasal mask allows better mobility and can be used even when you wear glasses.

Examples of these masks are the Respironics Comfort Gel Blue and the ResMed Ulltra Mirage.

CPAP nasal pillows

CPAP nasal pillows are small inserts that are placed at the opening of the nose. It can either be just attached to the base of the nostrils or can be slightly inserted up into the nose. It is important for a cpap nasal to have a good, comfortable fit to deliver the air pressure properly.

Sometimes, a lubricating ointment is used to help form a better seal, reduce friction in the nose and heal soreness that might develop.  This type of mask is a good option for people who find it difficult to fit a traditional cpap nasal.
