Bananas have a lot of great health benefits. They are excellent natural energy boosters, a rich source of potassium and good for people with high blood pressure. The list of benefits could go on. But bananas for sleep apnea? Now that’s something most people don’t know!
A study done in the University of New South Wales in New England revealed that bananas can help overcome obstructive sleep apnea syndrome. It is found that phospholipids or fatty acids in bananas can remain active in the mouth for up to six hours. The phospholipids help keep the airways open to maintain unobstructed breathing. Therefore it is especially helpful for people with mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea.
Experts also found that a steady supply of potassium in our body helps maintain a good quality sleep. Bananas are known to be super rich in potassium. One of the researchers, Dr. Tom van der Touw said that bananas are a relatively inexpensive and delicious alternative for patients with obstructive sleep apnea.
Bananas are a rich source of Vitamins A, B and C, Calcium, Iron, Potassium and Protein. So make eating a banana a nightly habit to enjoy the full benefits of a good quality sleep. Go bananas!
